Meet Our Doctor
Dr. Amanda Kappes
Dr. Amanda Kappes is originally from Orlando, Florida. She moved to Washington State with her husband in January 2013, after being honorably discharged from the Army. Dr. Kappes served six years on active duty as a member of the Military Police Corps. She completed basic training and AIT at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. She was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, in which she was very dissatisfied at first (as she had aspirations of being stationed in Alaska) but quickly began to appreciate everything about Louisiana culture. Dr. Kappes served one tour to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from June 2008 to September 2009. After her deployment, she was selected to serve as an investigator for the CID Drug Suppression Team, wherein she was quickly promoted to supervisor of a 12 member team. Wanting a change in career, she left the Army and pursued college to become a veterinarian. She was accepted to and graduated from the Washington State University (WSU), College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Kappes has a passion for all animals, big and small. Upon graduating veterinary school, she completed an Agricultural Animal Internship at WSU. She then became a mixed animal veterinarian in Moscow, ID, and has now been presented with an opportunity to become a business owner of the Spokane Veterinary Clinic (SVC). In her free time, Dr. Kappes enjoys spending time with her husband, Alex, her son, James, and her two border collie mutts, Mae and Pip. As a family, they love doing any and everything outdoors; from trail running, rock climbing, skiing, gravel cycling, to mountaineering. Dr. Kappes is very passionate about the work she does and is extremely excited about building a community of informed and compassionate individuals.
Our team is comprised of passionate professionals who care for your pets as if they were their own.
Before entering the veterinary field she owned her own horse breeding and training stable where she would breed, raise and show Sporthorses use for dressage, jumping and cross country eventing.
I grew up horseback riding, bottle feeding and milking goats, helped raise pigs and collected chicken eggs I’ve always been passionate about animals.
My love for the animals and the work that we do is still, and always will be who I am and I can’t imagine a day that I would give up helping animals.
